70s lucite napkin rings

Guzzini 70s lucite napkin ringsGuzzini Fratelli napkin rings
made in Italy 1970s

70s Lucite napkin rings for your retro table setting. Guzzini have been making tableware items since 1912 and in 1938 started producing items in ‘Plexiglas’- the Italian proprietary name for Lucite [or Perspex as it is known in Australia.] And Guzzini is still producing perspex items today.

These beauties come in their original box and are in great condition. The box has fantastic 70s graphics and the title ‘Allacciatovaglioli’ which roughly translates as napkin ties [‘allaccia’=tie and ‘tovaglioli’= napkin.]

The napkin rings have been photographed with a rather groovy 70s perpetual calendar which has been sold. I am always on the lookout for these calendars- I love them!

The napkin rings are for sale: $AU45

70s functionalism

70s Guzzini mapkin ringsGuzzini napkin rings
made in Italy, 1973

The ultimate in tableware functionalism- napkin rings that also house condiments. That’s right; either side of these babies are salt and pepper shakers. A marvelous idea, beautifully designed with simple, crisp forms. Add perspex to the mix and this is 70s functionalism at its best!

These napkin rings have never been used and await testing to see how well the whole napkin/condiment holder thing works- and may well be for novelty value only. That’s certainly what attracted me!

The napkin rings are for sale: $AUD25

Totally green 70s

Totally green 70s!Harrods glass plate, made in London c1970s
Anchor Hocking ‘Aztec’ design bowl, made in USA c1970s
Green ceramic cat figurine, made in Japan c1970s

All from the 70s and all a lovely green colour….yet all from different countries of origin. I have used the ‘Helvetica Medium’ reprographics board behind to provide a context for the pieces.

A few of my last posts have used this ‘reprographic’ device. I love graphics, and when I found a whole stack of old font boards from a reprographics place going out of business, I snapped them up. The font boards are various coloured perspex backgrounds with a variety of coloured fonts – here we have black and white, Helvetica Medium. Because they are perspex, the boards would make fantastic light boxes or light displays.

That is my intention, should I find the time/where-with-all to do so. My collection is bourgeoning with so many ideas, projects and could-possibilities. But the could-possibilities are what keep me working at the day job- their time will come [and by god what antiques will they be by then?]

In the meantime, this collection is for sale; $AUD95 – the dish, the bowl, the cat.
