I don’t normally buy things that are unmarked because it makes research of vintage items so difficult. But I had to have this lovely old blue salt box. The embossed patternings made me think it might be Hornsea; but no luck in that direction. The box has a hinged timber lid painted the same 70s colbalt blue and a hole in the top to allow it to be hung on a wall. Can anybody else identify the maker?
I found a similar salt box in green on Ebay [that fine research repository!] but 1] it had no history either and 2] it was wildly expensive. It did however guestimate the date of manufacture to be 70s, and that seems right.
The salt box would be great in a retro 70s kitchen; or repurpose it to hold bits and pieces on a hall table. I have styled the box with a kewpie: she’s a repro from the 70s so in keeping with the era.
The salt box is for sale: $AUD30
